Summary
This book was originally a collection of field notes in the exploration activities of underwater and/or maritime cultural heritage in the Rembang, Jepara, Demak, Kendal and Batang areas. This exploration itself lasted for almost 3 years from 2021 to 2023. The authors in this book then agreed to write the field notes and edit them into a book which was later titled “Epos Selat Jawa-Muria; Kendheng-Demak-Roban from the Sea Route, Post Road to the Trans-Java Toll Road” The purpose of the exploration of cultural heritage remains along the location is to re-identify monumental remains from Indonesia’s past, especially in the above areas, all of which are located in the province of Central Java in relation to humans and their environment in the past, especially in maritime and/or underwater aspects. Starting from material remains, knowledge systems, oral stories, traditions, remaining vegetation ecosystems and descriptions of imaginative reconstructions written in the form of epics. In Indonesia itself, in the past two decades, the development of cultural sciences, especially those related to archeology, has experienced quite rapid progress. Crossing the boundaries of scientific disciplines also occurs in the context of its development. Such a novelty in the discourse of knowledge. The writings in this book provide a new perspective whose idea is that science and knowledge must continue to move and develop. In this book, the authors try to present new views in the maritime and/or underwater sectors in the treasury of the northern coastal locus of Central Java, which stretches from Rembang Regency which borders East Java to Brebes Regency which borders West Java. Of course, in this writing, with a new presentation and perspective, it requires a new understanding to digest and criticize. That hope is what should be a development of these ideas that can grow and continue to move. This is an effort to explore and see the past related to understanding the present to provide provisions for forming a direction for the future.
